A Night to Remember: Oneida National Treasure Banquet 2025

I’m still feeling so much joy and gratitude after being honored as a 2025 Oneida National Treasure. It’s hard to put into words just how meaningful that moment was for me and my family. Standing among so many community members, friends, and loved ones, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride, not just in receiving the award, but in being part of something much bigger than myself.

It was such a beautiful night filled with laughter, dancing, stories, and the kind of moments that stay in your heart forever. Everywhere I looked, there were smiles, hugs, and the warmth of our people coming together in celebration. It wasn’t just an award ceremony. It felt like a homecoming, a reminder of how strong and connected our community truly is. The energy in the room was full of love, joy, and gratitude, and I’ll carry that feeling with me for a very long time.

I got there early to set up some of my art pieces to share with the community. As I unpacked each piece, I felt a deep sense of gratitude thinking about the stories and memories woven into every stitch and bead. It was special watching people pause to look closely, asking questions and sharing their own memories of beading, sewing, or learning from a loved one. Moments like that remind me why I create. Our art connects us, teaches us, and keeps our culture alive. Seeing my work displayed in that space, surrounded by so much history and love, made the evening feel even more meaningful.

Later the evening began Opening Address and with a keynote by Karen Ann Hoffman, who shared the story of how the birds got their clothing. Her words were powerful and inspiring reminding us how storytelling continues to connect us to our ancestors and teachings. Afterward, we joined together in social songs, and I got to dance with my son Hawi. Later, I shared another dance with my husband Shawn. Those moments, moving together, surrounded by community were unforgettable.

The meal was delicious, and I can’t thank the organizers enough for ensuring that everything was nut and peanut-free. That care and thoughtfulness made the evening even more special for me and my family.

Everyone and including my family had so much fun at the We Lit Photo Booth (@welitphotobooths) the photos captured the laughter and happiness perfectly!

I absolutely fell in love with the gifts from the Oneida Nation Museum, especially the medallion made by Jossalyn Metoxen. It feels like it was made just for me! The greens and pinks match everything I wear, and it’s such a meaningful piece to cherish.

And to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way. Yawʌˀkó· from the bottom of my heart. This night reminded me why I create, teach, and share our stories.
